Phenix City Wildlife Trapper Tip of the Month:
How to Get Rid of Groundhogs
The groundhog is also known as a woodchuck. It is a member of the Sciuridae family. Though it could be found in many regions but mostly it is seen in Alaska, Canada and east of the United States. It weighs around 3.9kg and has a length of 41cm. Groundhogs preferred to live at those areas where forests meet richly vegetated fields. Groundhog can live with humans because they are not aggressive towards peoples and do not carry any diseases. They are herbivore which means that they survive on vegetarian meals. When groundhogs' babies are born they are blind and they do not have hair on their bodies but they become mature just in the time of 3 months. Groundhog is one of those animals whose specific day is celebrated in the US. According to this day if a groundhog comes out of its hole on this day and sees its shadows it will get scared and will run back to its hole it means there will be 6 more weeks of winter. If it does not see its shadow it indicates early coming of spring.
Extermination:
In case a groundhog is in your house you could always trap it in several ways but the best way would be to call the wildlife removals experts because they could get your problem solved quickly and properly. Groundhog removal costs between 185 dollars to 195 dollars. Extermination could not be the best way to get rid of a groundhog. Rather set the bait so it could get caught in the trap and release him into the woods 5 miles away from your home. You could also pour some ammonia down their hole as it would work as a natural repellent for them. You could also produce vibrations in the ground or smoke in their holes to scare them away. Spread human hair around your yard because groundhogs get irritated by them so they would avoid that place. If you have a pet dog or a cat they will keep distance from you but if you don't have a pet dog or a cat you could use their urine and spread it in your yard to keep them away. The best way which pests’ controls companies tell us is by trapping and removing them. This is the safest method both for the animal and the peoples.
On the other hand, the extermination will not be a good option, but still if you want it to be like it, you should use a gun to shoot them direct rather than giving poison so that they would not have to go through very cruel and extremely painful death.
Conclusion:
Groundhogs would not be harmful to humans in any way. Their extermination would be a very cruel option. Several other humane ways could be followed to get rid of them. Still, if you want to go through the process of extermination of groundhogs, you should make it sure to approach the professional exterminators to do this for you or if you.
